Still no sign of Psycho — except on the Simpsons

Well, it worked last time up, so let’s try another …

Haven’t watched anything on Fox, not even football, for decades. Still this really is Psycho. Which is also the name of a Phantacea Mythos character, albeit as a brain in a box, last seen in “Nuclear Dragons“.

Having, thanks to his sister, Aranyani Nightingale, who first appeared nearly forty years ago in Phantacea 1 (September 1977, see back cover shot of Aran and a few others as drawn by Dave Sim way back then) avoided becoming a light snack, he’ll be back in quest of the rest of his body whenever “Destination Damnation” gets published.

“Hidden Headgames” will come out before it, though, later in year.

Seems there isn’t a handy shot of Psycho Saul Ryne from the PHANTACEA comic book series readily available. Remind with a comment below and there soon will be.

That’s Europa Heliopolis, not the continent or Jupiter’s moon, at least not entirely

Freespirit Nihila appears in the sequence promised below, which marks the return of Europa Heliopolis to the Phantacea Mythos after a fifteen to twenty year absence.

Something like it will certainly make it to “Hidden Headgames”, however.

Merry Mithramas Bonus … Boxed on Boxing Day

Perhaps not surprisingly the Mithramas update of Serendipity and … isn’t so much about devils and their devilments in the Phantacea Mythos, though it is that. Its main purpose is to show off some nifty optical diableries from the 1870s and tell pHantaJIm‘s true story re receiving an email from Mephistopheles in the mid to late 1990s.

Also contains reiterations of a couple of Dave Sim pages from pH-1 (1977) and a cut-out of a Frank Frazetta so obscure it didn’t google up online. Ended up having to scan it in from a picture book that precedes Phantacea.

Oh yes, entry contains some actual diablerie stereoscope shots as well. Have some sample artwork

Vexatious Nonentities?

Wash that birdbrain’s mouth out with soapstone

Was going to use the word ‘nebbishes’ but online dictionary objected (wrongly, as it happens) but even when it’s defined as “a pitifully ineffectual, inept, and timid person” it still implies they exist.
As this telltale sequence from “Decimation Damnation” reveals, that’s not necessarily so in the case of Stone Gnomes:
The girls had been terrified of Dervish Furie, with his horns and fangs, but had taken an immediate liking to Jervis Murray, he with his darkish, though not altogether jet-black skin and still thick but now trimmed beard. They were in charm mode; were competing with each other trying to tell him how matter transducers kept working despite the fact no one in Cabalarkon knew how to make, let alone service, one anymore. He was distracted, was forever looking around for Wilderwitch, who had yet to show up, and missed most of what Harry’s youngest, Athena, was saying.
“What was that again, Tina? What’re stone gnomes?”
“Gnomes made of stone, silly,” the 6-year old repeated.
“They’re what keeps everything going, Uncle Monster,” elaborated 12-year old Helen, who liked to sound superior and could be quite rude. “Tinny thinks she saw one this morning in the old palace.”

Which, since she thought she saw it in a refrigerator while ‘stealing’ ice cream as well as for those of you don’t follow Phantacea Publications on Facebook (pHantacea on pHacebook), brings us to this, a variation of which also appeared recently on Serendipity and …:

A mite nippy out there, eh? And not just in the dying days of what’s been passing for summer in Vancouver. Great start, though … in May.

Neither of which tells us that stone gnomes actually exist. Something does, though, hence — hopefully without giving too much away — this sequence, also from DecDam:
Wilderwitch was still silently cogitating … when they arrived at Raven’s digs. She wasn’t as swift as Johnny or Raven were to realize the walls were no longer the mess she and Furie had made of them; were in fact back to being as good as new. Was barely swift enough to pick up on the significance of Raven’s exclamatory squawks. Wash that birdbrain’s mouth out with soapstone she was thinking when Sundown made another observation.
“And if they’re demons, they’re shape-shifters.”
“Wait a minute there,” the Witch protested. “You’re suggesting I’m a demon?”
“Not at all,” said Sundown, regarding her querulously, through Raven’s eyes and with her perspective. “Should we have been?”
“Of course not. What were you saying then? I must have missed it.”
“Only that stone gnomes must have fixed the walls and stone gnomes have to be demons. Demons are shape-shifters.”

As per here, I had to abandon my first choice print cover for DecDam. Then my craftily reworked second choice <<== did not pass the Acrobat test at 240% total overall coverage.

Small conciliation, it would not have passed the 2014 test either. ==>>

<<== So I tried out the cover I initially intended for the follow-up entry in the as yet open-ended saga of Wilderwitch’s Babies.

Here’s the requirement:

Concerned I was; concerned I still am. But I’m submitting Revision 4 anyhow. Stay tuned. If gasket blows, well, at least I’ve got comparatively affordable medical insurance.

Stone Gnome Artwork No OOPArt

No, this is not an OOPArt (out of place artifact), despite what Fortean Times #338 (March 2016) seems to be suggesting on p7. I reject the notion that the 1st or 2nd Century BC relief depicts a laptop computer, complete with USB ports.

As per the upcoming Phantacea Mythos mini-novel entitled “Decimation Damnation”, it may be an example of Stone Gnome Art circa 5980 YD (our 1980). As such, it could be depicting Klannit Thanatos (the Mirror Mentalist, from both “Goddess Gambit” and “Helios on the Moon”) psychically communicating with Cyborg Cerebrus, he in his mirror-lined coffin.

The apparent girl holding the device could well be yellow-skinned Sedunihas, the Thanatoids youngest, who only ages one year in five, cross-dressing.

Here’s another take on the cover for “Decimation Damnation“, a web-serial that appeared in its entirety on pH-Webworld (aka Phantacea on the Web) starting around twelve years ago. (Might have been called “The Weirdness of Cabalarkon” then, at least for awhile.) New version won’t be the same, though.

BTW, it came in at 170 pages but an as yet unwritten Auctorial Preamble and a Character Companion (some of which is here) will enlarge that.

Both parts of the Wilderwitch figure were taken from a snap shot in Montreal in April 2000. The wood plaques are all by the same guy; unfortunately there are no names I can find on them.

Her “fearsome” soul-self is in foreground; not looking very fearsome I’m sorry to say, but the lack of eyes does make it kind of spooky.

As an aside, and hopefully without giving too much away, what happens to Blind Sundown when he is given crablike, ommatophorous eye-stalks is anything but ducky. It’s truly beyond either fearsome or spooky.

The caduceus is actually a hairpin. Not sure where it came from but the gargoyles are definitely from the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. They were taken in 2004, when you could still walk up steep — I’d call them precipitous — stairs to the gargoyle level. Not sure sure whether you can do that anymore.

Giving the stone, house-head ruin from Hasankeyf eyeballs must have been fun.

Can’t recall whose they were but flipping the shot does make it look almost human.

Not sure I like the text name at top of page on the tentative front covers shown but might keep it just for variety.

However, compared to the second cover at top of page, do prefer the pink background to Mythos area and the vaguely purplish overall background in first graphic.

Did Camarena show Granny becoming a Phoenix in 1964/5

Not saying she does, but Sorciere’s quest to find a way to get Granny Garuda to phoenix leads directly to events recounted during ‘The Vampire Variations‘ web-serial that appeared on pH-Webworld in the Twenty Noughts (early Two Thousands).

It’s a storyline that Jim McPherson, the creator/writer of the Phantacea Mythos, keeps threatening to revisit when he finally gets around to completing, as in completely revising, “Tsishah’s Twilight“. (Current reckoning has it as the third and final entry in the saga of “Wilderwtch’s Babies”.)

In this regard, he has discovered …

Have a boo at the upper right hand corner of this mural (“Presence of Latin America”). Could that be Tsishah Twilight, who wears Sorciere’s daughter, the Shah Demon, as a way to keep them both semi sort of alive in 5980/1?

Could it be Sorciere herself, some fifteen years before her horrendous murder in June 1953? More importantly, is that really Granny Garuda phoenixing (to coin a word) at her side?

Of course not. Yet … it has to be, doesn’t it. Have a closer look and make up your own mind. Already have mine.

As for what got McPherson researching Camarena, when he was in Mexico City’s Chapultepec Castle in January 2016 he not only spotted Camarena’s “Clash of Two Worlds”, he was allowed to take a picture of it.

Having already snapped impressive Camarenas in the opera house and the Archaeological Museum he decided to look online for some more, hence this serendipitous entry.

BTW, the last time he was in the castle, fifteen years earlier or thereabouts, he was actually asked to leave for trying to take pictures inside it. Then again it might not have been a bonafide history museum then.

All of which explains why he had to appropriate a shot of it from the web to use on pH-Webworld here and here.

Non-carb noodling on Thunder Cloud Creatures

Jim McPherson, the creator-writer of the Phantacea Mythos, has been noodling of late. Please don’t mention this to his doctor who’s big on no-carbs diets (if such things are possible).

As is often the case, said noodling was provoked by an article he read in Fortean Times; this one re folks struck by lightning, sometimes more than once, who nevertheless survive.
Said noodling did result in considerable googling (though no canoodling as yet.) Reportedly he still hasn’t decided if he’s been wrong about Blind Sundown and Raven’s Head all these years (approaching forty, man and mostly boy).
Maybe, despite what they seem to believe themselves, they’re not Creatures of the Cosmos. Maybe they’re ‘Wakinyah’ Thunder Beings.
